My journey into the field of caregiving began in 2018, when I was hired to work in the kitchen and dining room of a care facility. That’s where I realized how much I enjoy serving the elderly. Listening to their stories and watching them interact with one another was so much fun. That experience made me want to be around them for more than just the hour or so that it took to finish breakfast and lunch.
From there I chose to apply as a caregiver. I was placed in the memory care unit, and was working full time with residents who had dementia and Alzheimer’s. It was very different from what I was used to, and much more challenging. This is where I found that being helpful was also really important to me.
However, working in facilities wasn’t where I saw myself long term, and that is what led me to apply for a position as an in-home caregiver. Unfortunately, the companies I applied to didn’t really serve the area where I lived (Forest Grove, Gaston, or Yamhill). I figured, there's probably a great need for a local in-home care provider.
And there was. So, in an effort to serve our community, I created Kristina Cares™.
I love what I do. I consider myself lucky to have found a career that brings me so much joy. ❤️
